STATE INSURANCE REGULATORS PARTICIPATE IN NATIONAL
SUMMIT ON HEALTH CARE FRAUD
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan. 26, 2010) — Four members
of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) will
serve as panelists during a national dialogue on health care fraud
in Washington, D.C. The National Summit on Health Care Fraud is
being sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
and the U.S. Department of Justice.
“Insurance regulators are on the lookout for fraud every day,”
said Jane L. Cline, NAIC President and West Virginia Insurance
Commissioner. “There is a growing trend with fraud in Medicare,
Medicaid and private health insurance markets. We look forward to
working with the Administration to help provide input into possible
policy reforms.”
Participating NAIC members and scheduled
panels include:
- Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger, Role of
States in Preventing Health Care Fraud
- Illinois Director of Insurance Michael T. McRaith,
Development of Effective Prevention Policies and Methods for
Insurers, Providers and Beneficiaries
- Ohio Director of Insurance Mary Jo Hudson, Effective Law
Enforcement Strategies
- New Hampshire Insurance Commissioner Roger Sevigny,
Measuring Health Care Fraud, Assessing Recoveries and
Determining Resource Needs
Featured speakers at the Summit include Secretary of the
Department of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, a former
NAIC President and Kansas Insurance Commissioner, and U.S. Attorney
General Eric Holder. Other participants in the Summit include
prosecutors, investigators and insurance company executives.
The Summit will be held at the Natcher Conference Center at the
National Institutes of Health from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. ET on
Thursday, January 28.
