NAIC SUPPORTS ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION OF CHICAGO
CHICAGO, IL (December 3, 2005)
- With as many as one in three adults suffering from arthritis or
chronic joint symptoms, continued efforts to prevent and
treat the disease are crucial. The National Association of Insurance
Commissioners (NAIC) has selected the Greater Chicago Chapter of the
Arthritis Foundation as its official charity for the 2005 Winter
National Meeting here. Since 2003, the NAIC has designated programs to benefit
non-profit, charitable organizations whose primary missions are
healthcare-related.
"We are pleased to
support the dedicated efforts of the Greater Chicago Chapter of the
Arthritis Foundation during our Winter National Meeting," said Diane
Koken, NAIC President and Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner. "With the cause of this
disease still unknown and a cure still yet to be discovered,
continued research is absolutely critiucial. We are honored to play a
part in fostering their mission to help improve lives through
prevention and control of arthritis."
While aArthritis is the nation's
leading cause of disability among Americans over 15 years of age, it
can affect people at any stage and any age, can affect people at any
stage in life and affects people of all ages, including
300,000 children. While there is no cure for arthritis, there are
various treatment options that help with managing pain and reducing
deformity and disability. Early diagnosis and an aggressive
treatment plan are recognized as two very important factors in
getting arthritis under control. Arthritis is the
nation's leading cause of disability among Americans over 15 years
of age.
