FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ALABAMA, KANSAS AND MISSOURI HOUSTON (Dec. 3, 2007) — The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) announced today that three states — the Alabama Department of Insurance, the Kansas Department of Insurance and the Missouri Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration — have selected State Based Systems (SBS) to meet their back-office processing needs. “One of the most important things we can do as insurance regulators is to streamline our processes for the benefit of the consumer and the person the consumer depends on most — their insurance producer,” said NAIC President and Alabama Insurance Commissioner Walter Bell. “It has been our goal to increase our use of technology for administrative functions so we can better use our staff’s time on consumer protection. SBS is a major step toward that goal.” “SBS is an excellent example of the states working together to achieve uniformity in insurance regulation,”said NAIC President-Elect and Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger. “SBS also offers the flexibility to customize the system in ways that will be very beneficial to our department and the insurance consumers in our state.” “Our department is constantly seeking ways to enhance and streamline our regulatory processes and better serve Missouri insurance consumers,” said Missouri Insurance Director Doug Ommen. “Implementing SBS will enable us to meet NAIC national compliance initiatives without delay, to reallocate staff and financial resources to other areas of the department in need and to save considerable time and money with new user-friendly technological advancements.” In addition to Alabama, Kansas and Missouri, SBS is the solution of choice in Delaware, Florida, Iowa, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Rhode Island and Washington, D.C.
