FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE INSURANCE EDUCATION PROGRAM WINS NATIONAL
AWARD KANSAS CITY, Mo. (June 24, 2008) — The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) has been named to the 2008 Associations Advance America Honor Roll, a national awards competition sponsored by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and The Center for Association Leadership. The NAIC received the award for its “Insure U: Get Smart About Insurance” public-education campaign. Using a university-like curriculum of credible, unbiased information, Insure U helps consumers learn about their changing insurance needs and how to avoid being scammed by fake insurance companies. The program — available in both English and Spanish — also includes information specifically tailored to the needs of small business owners. “Owning assets and comprehending basic financial concepts — including how to read and understand an insurance policy — are keys to a secure financial future,” said NAIC Executive Vice President and CEO Catherine J. Weatherford. “That is why the NAIC and state insurance regulators are committed to doing what they can to help every American be a smarter insurance consumer.” Now in its 18th year, the prestigious Associations Advance America (AAA) Awards program recognizes associations that propel America forward — with innovative projects in education, skills training, standards-setting, business and social innovation, knowledge creation, citizenship, and community service. Although association activities have a powerful impact on everyday life, they often go unnoticed by the general public. “The NAIC’s program truly embodies the spirit of the Associations Advance America campaign. It is an honor and an inspiration to showcase this activity as an example of the many contributions that associations are making to advance American society,” said AAA Committee Chair Matthew D’Uva, CAE, president of SOCAP International.
