FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NAIC MARKS MILESTONE ACHIEVEMENTS KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Oct. 13, 2008) - The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) today celebrated two milestone achievements. The NAIC Web site, www.naic.org, topped 1 million unique visitors - surpassing the total number of visitors to the site in calendar year 2007. In addition, the Greater Kansas City Public Relations Society of America (GKC PRSA) recognized the NAIC with two PRISM awards for excellence in communications. "The increase in Web visits proves that both consumers and industry representatives look to the NAIC for quality information. Because we strive to put consumers first, it is especially gratifying to see that our communications efforts are paying off," said NAIC President and Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger. "Recognition from professional associations, like PRSA, reaffirms that we are achieving excellence in our public-relations outreach." The NAIC received a first-place PRISM award for its nationwide "Insure U: Get Smart About Insurance" consumer-education campaign. Using a university-like curriculum of credible, unbiased information, Insure U helps consumers learn about their changing insurance needs and how to avoid being scammed by fake insurance companies. The program - available in both English and Spanish - also includes information specifically tailored to the needs of small business owners. Since its inception in 2006, the program has reached more than 1.25 billion consumers. For more information about Insure U, visit www.InsureUonline.org. The NAIC received a silver PRISM award for its 2007 Annual Report. Using a theme of "State Regulation: Built to Last," the annual report summarizes how state insurance regulators have strengthened the foundation for the organization's future.
