PRISM AWARDS SHINE LIGHT ON NAIC CONSUMER
OUTREACH 2008 Initiatives Recognized by Public
Relations Society
WASHINGTON, D.C. (Oct. 20, 2009) — The National
Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and its consumer
education program, Insure U, is being honored for its public
relations initiatives for a second consecutive year. The Greater
Kansas City Public Relations Society of America (GKC PRSA)
recognized the NAIC with three PRISM awards for excellence
in communications.
The NAIC received a first-place PRISM
award for its two nationwide public service announcements: one on
helping consumers make informed decisions about long-term care
insurance and another that reminded consumers on the importance of
getting prepared before a natural disaster strikes. GKC PRSA judges
remarked on the “impressive turnkey PSA approach and noteworthy
participation by NAIC membership.”
“This prestigious
recognition from PRSA is a heartening endorsement of our public
relations initiatives,” said Roger Sevigny, NAIC President and New
Hampshire Insurance Commissioner. “The NAIC prides itself on a
spirit and style of communications outreach that is enhanced by
collaboration with all of our member states. We look forward to
continuing to build on an award-winning platform of services that
support state-based regulation.”
The NAIC also received two
silver PRISM awards for its 2008 Annual Report and Public
Information Officer (PIO) Forum. Using a theme of “Navigating
Change,” the annual report summarized how state insurance regulators
weathered the financial turmoil of the past year by embracing change
and new directions.
The 2008 PIO Forum focused on developing
engaging writing skills and media relationships, as well as
leveraging NAIC information and staff support to assist with the
everyday demands of PIOs as the voice of the state insurance
departments.
