NAIC NAMES NEW DISTINGUISHED SCHOLAR
Thomas N. Herzog, Ph.D., Will Play Key Role in Modernization of RBC
WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 9, 2010) — Thomas N. Herzog, Ph.D., ASA, has been selected as the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) Distinguished Scholar in Insurance Regulation. Herzog is the second scholar to hold this position at the Center for Insurance Policy and Research and will play a key role in the risk-based capital (RBC) modernization project.
"Dr. Herzog brings an invaluable wealth of expertise in statistics and actuarial science to this role," said Therese M. (Terri) Vaughan, Ph.D., NAIC Chief Executive Officer. "His knowledge and insight will be a tremendous asset as the NAIC embarks on a comprehensive evaluation of the RBC formulas, factors and methodology."
Herzog has been the Chief Actuary for the Federal Housing Administration since 1982. His prolific publishing efforts include books such as Models for Quantifying Risk and Introduction to Credibility Theory. Herzog is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and holds a doctorate in mathematics (statistics) from the University of Maryland
