NAIC BRIEFS STATE LEGISLATORS
ON INSURANCE
ISSUES Lawmakers from 23 Jurisdictions
Meet with State Regulators on Health, Financial
Initiatives
SEATTLE (Aug. 13, 2010) — The National
Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) welcomes more than 30
state legislators representing 23 states and territories to the
Summer National Meeting in Seattle. The national meeting is an
opportunity for legislators to work with state regulators and
insurance experts as well highlight legislative
priorities.
"With input from legislators, we have a more
complete picture of the state legislative landscape our regulators
are operating in,” said NAIC President and West Virginia Insurance
Commissioner Jane L. Cline. “While regulators have always enjoyed a
close working relationship with state legislators, this forum
provides a more in-depth look at regional and national trends. This
kind of collaboration is the foundation of our effective system of
state-based insurance regulation.”
Two separate sessions have
been planned specifically for state legislators, including a formal
orientation and a dialogue with their regulator colleagues. The
orientation is designed to give attending legislators an overview of
the NAIC, as well as discuss policies and procedures. Items on the
agenda for the NAIC/State Government Liaison Committee
meeting include federal financial reform, solvency
modernization, health care reform implementation and a discussion of
state legislative agendas. |
