Representatives from Six Countries Attend International Exchange Program

Kansas City, MO (Oct. 13, 2010) — The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) welcomed 13 regulators from China, India, Korea, Lebanon, Republic of Srpska and Thailand to its International Internship Program for Education and Regulatory Cooperation. The fall program kicks off in Kansas City, Missouri this week before the regulators travel to the NAIC Fall National Meeting in Orlando, Florida next week.

The regulators will then travel to host states across the country before concluding at the NAIC Securities Valuation Office in New York City in late November. The program is structured to give each participant an overview of the broad principles of U.S. insurance regulation, as well as technical and specialized application of these principles at the state level.

States and territories hosting the interns this fall are the District of Columbia, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas and Virginia.

Started in 2004, the NAIC‘s International Internship Program‘s mission is to advance working relations with foreign markets, emphasizing the exchange of regulatory techniques and technology. The program is conducted twice a year in the fall and spring. At the completion of the 2010 fall program, 133 regulators from 23 countries will have participated in the program.
