INTERNATIONAL FELLOWS PROGRAM
KICKS OFF IN KANSAS CITY

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (April 11, 2011)  —  Today, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) welcomed 12 regulators from around the world for the Spring 2011 International Fellows Program.  Participants include insurance regulators from India, Kenya, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan and Thailand.

The gathering kicks off a week-long orientation for the fellows at the NAIC's Central Office in Kansas City, Mo.  Following orientation, the fellows travel to state insurance departments where they will work with U.S. regulators in various areas of technical specialization.  Host jurisdictions for the spring 2011 program include Iowa, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico and West Virginia. The program will conclude in the NAIC's New York City office.  While in New York, the fellows will be briefed on investment analysis and participate in an industry-regulator dialogue.

Formerly named the International Internship Program, the NAIC developed the fellowship program in 2004 to advance working relationships with foreign market regulators, emphasizing the exchange of regulatory techniques and technology. With the completion of the 2011 spring program, a total of 143 fellows from 24 countries will have participated in the training program. To date, 30 U.S. jurisdictions have hosted international regulators.
