NEW EDITORS NAMED FOR JOURNAL OF INSURANCE REGULATION
           

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 29, 2013) The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) is pleased to announce Cassandra R. Cole, Ph.D., and Kathleen A. McCullough, Ph.D., have been named the new co-editors of the Journal of Insurance Regulation (JIR). The JIR provides high-quality research and offers a variety of perspectives on insurance regulatory and public policy issues.

“We are excited about the opportunity to serve as co-editors of the JIR,” said Dr. Cole. “The Journal provides an important service to those tasked with setting public policy related to insurance as well as to those who study insurance regulation.”

“We hope to continue the tradition of strong, timely research in the JIR and work to provide regulators with the information they need to create sound public policy,” added Dr. McCullough.

Sponsored by the NAIC, the objectives of the JIR are to 1) provide a forum for opinion and discussion on major insurance regulatory issues; 2) provide wide distribution of rigorous, high-quality research regarding insurance regulatory issues; 3) make state insurance departments more aware of insurance regulatory research efforts; 4) increase the rigor, quality and quantity of the research efforts on insurance regulatory issues; and 5) be an important force for the overall improvement of insurance regulation.

Dr. Cole is the Robert L. Atkins Professor in Risk Management and Insurance at the Dr. William T. Hold/The National Alliance Program in Risk Management and Insurance in the College of Business at Florida State University. Her research interests include insurance regulation, corporate governance, and retirement adequacy. She has presented at meetings for the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and has worked on a variety of regulatory projects for the state of Florida. Dr. Cole is a past president of the Southern Risk and Insurance Association, actively involved in the American Risk and Insurance Association, and serves on the editorial board of several journals.  She earned her doctorate degree in risk management and insurance from the University of Georgia, and her bachelor’s degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Dr. McCullough is the Assistant Department Chair and the State Farm Professor in Risk Management and Insurance at the Dr. William T. Hold/The National Alliance Program in Risk Management and Insurance in the College of Business at Florida State University. Her research interests include insurance regulation, reinsurance, enterprise risk management and insurer operations. She has presented for the Griffith Foundation at meetings of the National Conference of Insurance Legislators and has worked on a variety of regulatory projects for the state of Florida. She is actively involved in the American Risk and Insurance Association, serves on the editorial board of several journals, and is a past president of the Southern Risk and Insurance Association. She earned her doctorate degree in risk management and insurance from the University of Georgia and her bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas.

A brief synopsis of each JIR article is posted on the CIPR website following publication, with the full version of each article available for individual purchase. A hard copy compilation of all JIR articles released in 2013 will be published at year-end and made available for purchase.
