NAIC PROMOTES OFFICERS,
ELECTS NEW SECRETARY-TREASURER

Special interim election held to fill officer vacancies

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Feb. 8, 2016) —During a Plenary meeting of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) on Feb. 7, members elected Wisconsin Insurance Commissioner Ted Nickel to fill the vacant President-Elect position.

The office was vacated when Sharon P. Clark resigned as Kentucky Insurance Commissioner on Jan. 11. Subsequently, Tennessee Insurance Commissioner Julie Mix McPeak was elected NAIC Vice President, the position previously held by Nickel. Members then elected Maine Insurance Superintendent Eric A. Cioppa to the position of Secretary-Treasurer, previously held by McPeak. Missouri Insurance Director John M. Huff currently serves as the NAIC’s President.

"We are fortunate to have so many members who are willing to step up and serve our dynamic state regulatory system," said Huff. "One of the greatest strengths of our association is our ability to quickly adapt to challenges and changes. I'm pleased to welcome a new member to the leadership team and am grateful for the commitment demonstrated by colleagues to fill these important roles."

The NAIC also recently named NAIC Chief Operating Officer and Chief Legal Officer Andy J. Beal as Acting CEO. The former CEO, Senator Ben Nelson, left office at the end of January.
