International Regulatory Cooperation (G) Working Group

The International Regulatory Cooperation Working Group met on December 3, 2007.
During this meeting, the Working Group:
- Received an update on the NAIC’s International Internship Program, which takes place twice a year in the fall and spring. The program includes a 1 week training program in Kansas City, 5 weeks at a host state department, attendance at a national meeting and closing activities in Washington, DC. The spring program will begin the week of April 21st. Since the China Pilot Project in 2004, 39 interns have completed the formal internship program from 10 countries. Egypt, Chile, Brazil have all expressed interest in participating in the intern program. The chair received comments from mentors and Dr. Rosita Chang, Faculty Advisor from the University of Hawaii on the internship program.
- Received updates on bilateral and regional dialogues; including the NAIC-CIRC Working Group on Health Insurance, a draft MOU with Thailand, technical assistance on reinsurance with Brazil, the Association of Latin American Insurance Supervisors (ASSAL) Annual Conference in Chile.
- Heard a report from Yoshi Kawai, IAIS Secretary General, about the IAIS’ Education Initiatives.
Action Items:

Agreed to send out a letter to the NAIC full membership seeking new host states for the NAIC Spring Intern Program.

Agreed to send out a note to Working Group members for comments on future training programs with Latin America.
