Government Relations Leadership Council (EX)

The Government Relations Leadership Council (GLRC) met on March 31, 2008.
During the meeting, the GRLC:
- Received an update on federal property and casualty legislation from NAIC Government Relations staff, Ethan Sonnichsen, regarding prominent federal developments, including: the Treasury blueprint for financial regulatory reform, optional federal charter, surplus lines and reinsurance reform, producer licensing, federal credit scoring restrictions, flood insurance, natural catastrophe insurance, risk retention groups, holocaust era insurance claims, and the federal priority statute.
- Received an update on federal health legislation from NAIC Government Relations staff, Brian Webb, regarding private Medicare plan marketing oversight, Medigap reforms, health care reform, mental health parity, high risk pool funding, and long-term care.
- Received an update on the viatical and senior designation issues from Brian Webb.
- Received a report on the NAIC/Legislator Liaison meeting from NAIC Government Relations staff, Amanda Yanek. A number of issues were discussed at the March 29 meeting, including the interstate compact, reinsurance, bond insurance, and federal legislation in a variety of areas. State legislators asked that NAIC members collaborate with them in visits to Congress and continue to work to promote and protect state insurance oversight.
