Personal Lines Market Regulatory Framework (EX) Working Group
First Quarter 2008
The Personal Lines Market Regulatory Framework (EX) Working Group did not meet during the first quarter of 2008. There was some significant work conducted to advance the white paper titled Personal Lines Regulatory Framework.
NAIC Economist Davin Cermak had conversations with several interested parties regarding the section formerly called the “Economic Theory of Competitive Markets and the Insurance Industry.” As a result of these conversations, he has redrafted that part of the report into four sections titled “Competitive Markets and the Economics of Regulation,” “Conditions for a Competitive Market,” “the Importance of Aggregate Consumer Demand in Insurance Markets” and “Social Welfare Aspects of Personal Lines Insurance.”
A revised draft was distributed to the Working Group and interested parties on March 27, 2008. A written comments deadline of April 18, 2008 was established along with a request for people to limit their comments to the new sections of the draft.
The Working Group will have one or more conference calls to finish its work on the white paper. The goal is to have a finished product before the Speed to Market (EX) Task Force at the 2008 Summer National Meeting.
