Summer 2009 Meeting Summaries Index

The International Regulatory Cooperation (G) Working Group of the International Insurance Relations (G) Committee met June 13, 2009.

During this meeting, the Working Group:

  • Discussed updates to the Regulatory Cooperation Section of International Strategy & Action Plan. It was decided that Working Group members would send comments to Ekrem Sarper (NAIC), and an amended version of the Strategy & Action Plan would be sent to the G Committee. It was decided that NAIC staff should develop a more comprehensive "International Training Curriculum" for non-U.S. regulators.
  • Discussed potential dates for the NAIC's International Intern program in 2010. The Working Group received an update on the Spring internship program, which included nine participants, one from Chinese Taipei, two from Egypt, one from Republic of Srpska (Bosnia Herzegovina), two from Saudi Arabia, one from Singapore and two from Thailand. The next program will begin October 26.
  • Discussed the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) Implementation Committee's Education Strategy and the NAIC's recommendation to the IAIS that it ensure a fully transparent bidding process when seeking bids to develop an online training tool.
  • Received a report regarding the recently held meeting of the IAIS-Consultative Group for Assisting the Poor (CGAP) Joint Working Group on Microinsurance at the Georgia Department of Insurance.
  • Received reports on bilateral and regional developments, focused on Asia and Latin America.
