The Center for Insurance Policy and Research (CIPR) held its Summer Event: Gearing Up for Autonomous Vehicles
, which delved into the emergence of self-driving vehicles and the related insurance implications. With momentum for self-driving cars growing, there is a long list of safety, legal and insurance issues to consider.
Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Teresa D. Miller hosted the Summer Event, which had more than 300 attendees and highlighted current auto insurance trends and how mobility sharing and new technologies could potentially transform the auto insurance market.
"Automated technologies have the potential to change the landscape of our communities, compelling much change within the insurance sector," Miller said. "It is incumbent upon regulators to ensure appropriate regulations and safety standards are in place to ensure consumer protections are balanced with innovation."
The CIPR tapped key experts for the forum, which included a presentation on The Changing Auto Safety Landscape and a panel discussion entitled, A Brave New Road: Technological Advances bring New Dangers and New Opportunities.
