Aoomalo Manupo Turituri was appointed Insurance Commissioner for the territory of American Samoa by Governor Togiola T.A. Tulafono on April 28, 2010; in addition to being named four months earlier as the Governor's Executive Advisor on Education.
Turituri had been a prominent educator for thirty five years prior to being made Insurance Commissioner. He earned his way through the hierarchy in Education as an exceptional classroom teacher, a Testing and Evaluation Director and eventually Deputy Director for Administration.
He is a New Zealand Certified Teacher who taught in New Zealand, Samoa and later American Samoa. He earned a BA in English and Political Science through a Special Brigham Young University program, at Laie Hawaii in 1980 and a Master in Educational Administration from the University of Hawaii in 1983.
A keen and highly competitive sportsman in his younger years, he loved and actually excelled in track and field, boxing, field hockey, volleyball and especially rugby where he was renowned as both player and coach.
He is a respected political analyst in his territory, who headed the elections data collection and prediction teams for the past four consecutive administrations.
On April 03, 1983 he was bestowed the Traditional Samoan Chiefly Title of Aoomalooletuimanua at Malaetele, Ta'u Manu'a. He is married to Feula Silulu, a Registered Nurse from New Zealand. They have four children and seventeen grand-children.
