Before being appointed commissioner, J.P. Schmidt was a partner in the law firm of Crockett, Nakamura & Schmidt in Wailuku, Maui. J.P. Schmidt served as the corporation counsel for Maui County from 1995 to 1999, overseeing a department of 12 deputy attorneys and support staff and acting as the chief legal advisor for the County Council, Mayor and Administrative Departments and Boards of the County, and as deputy corporation counsel advising Budget and Finance from 1991 – 1995. Prior to government service, Commissioner Schmidt was an officer with the Los Angeles Agency of the Dai-Ichi Kangyo Bank in commercial lending, and with Coldwell Banker Commercial Group, Inc. Commissioner Schmidt received his juris doctorate from the University of California at Davis School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from UCLA. |
