Non-Resident Licensing Checklist for Business Entities

Organizational Documents

  • Submit Articles of Incorporation or Articles of Organization
  • Firms and Trade names must be filed with Business License Center, Trade Names Division (360-664-1400)

Appointment Requirements

Appointment is required at time of application with any insurer to be represented unless the appointment(s) and fee are going to be submitted electronically through NIPR or the OIC Web site (www.insurance.wa.gov) within 15 days of the acceptance of the first insurance application executed by the agent with the insurer.

Affiliation required for all individuals who represent the business entity in its transactions in Washington

  • Supply INS-18, Affiliation/Termination Notice ( www.insurance.wa.gov/)
  • Appointment fee is $20 each, payable to the Office of Insurance Commissioner (OIC).
  • Affiliation fee is $20 each, payable to the Office of Insurance Commissioner (OIC)

Other Requirements

  • Filing Fee $5, payable to the Office of the Insurance Commissioner
  • License Fee $55 for producers, payable to the Office of the Insurance Commissioner (all fees payable to the Office of the Insurance Commissioner may be combined into one check)
  • In reference to question 23 on the business application, Washington does not require that the designated/responsible licensed producer be an officer, director or partner of the business entity.

Non-Resident Licensing Checklist for Individuals

Organizational Documents

Appointment Requirements
Appointment is required at time of application if individual is directly representing insurer unless the appointment (s) and fees are going to be submitted electronically through NIPR or teh OIC Web site (www.insurance.wa.gov) within 15 days of the acceptance of the first insurance application executed by the agent with the insurer;

Affiliation is required if individual is representing and/or sharing commissions with an agency (Agency must also be licensed as non-resident in Washington)

  • Supply INS-18, Appointment/Affiliation Notice (www.insurance.wa.gov/)
  • Appointment/affiliation fee is $20 each, payable to the Office of Insurance Commissioner (OIC).

Other Requirements

  • Filing fee $5 payable to the Office of the Insurance Commissioner

    License fee $55 for producers payable to the Office of the Insurance Commissioner (All fees payable to the Office of the Insurance Commissioner may be combined into one check)

  • Submit 1 completed fingerprint card, Form #FD258 with a $45.25 check payable to the OIC (All fees payable to the Office of the Insurance Commissioner may be combined into one check). After July 1, 2009, if a non-resident applicant's home state requires fingerprints to obtain a resident license, WA will waive the fingerprint requirement. A list of states requiring resident fingerprints can be found on the OIC Web site.

  • Letter of Good Standing if Articles approved over 6 months--issued by the Secretary of State of Washington (360-753-7115)
  • Firms and Trade names must be filed with Business License Center, Trade Names Division (360-664-1400)

Resident Licensing Checklist for Individuals

Score Reports and signed Pre-licensing Education Certificates

  • Passing score report for each line of authority
  • Pre-licensing Education Certificates for each line of authority.

Appointment Requirements

  • Supply INS-18, Appointment/Affiliation Notice (http://www.insurance.wa.gov//)
  • Appointment/affiliation fee is $20 each, payable to the Office of Insurance Commissioner (OIC).
  • Appointment required if individual is directly representing insurer.
  • Affiliation required if individual is representing and/or sharing commissions with an agency (Agency must also be licensed as non-resident in Washington)
