Today’s Trio is a new feature within the NAIC Daily News where we highlight a few of the meetings happening during the day. Here’s a look at what’s on tap for today during the Fall National Meeting.
Wisconsin Insurance Commissioner Ted Nickel presides over his final Opening Session as NAIC President at noon today in the Kalakaua Ballrom AB. Fall National Meeting host Gordon I. Ito, the Hawaii Insurance Commissioner, will welcome attendees to Honolulu. Nickel will recap the year as well as update on current events and what lies ahead for the NAIC as the association moves forward.
The NAIC will also honor regulators with the 2017 Robert Dineen Award for Outstanding Service and Contribution to the State Regulation of Insurance. Last year’s honorees were Kim Hudson (California), Cindy Donovan (Indiana) and Rich Piazza (Louisiana).
International Insurance Relations (G) Committee
The International Insurance Relations (G) Committee will gather today at 1 p.m. in 313AB-Level 3. The committee will receive updates on the following: the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD); regional supervisory cooperation activities given by NAIC President and Wisconsin Insurance Commissioner Ted Nickel; as well as the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS).
Connecticut Insurance Commissioner Katharine L. Wade, chair of the committee will preside over the meeting.
Big Data (EX) Working Group
The Big Data (EX) Working Group (meeting materials) will meet this morning at 7:30 in 313AB. The working group will discuss the following: The current regulatory frameworks for oversight of insurers’ use of consumer data; data needs and tools for state insurance regulators to monitor the marketplace; and review complex models.
There is currently no chair for this working group so Rhode Island Superintendent Elizabeth Kelleher Dwyer, the vice chair, will preside over the meeting.
