NAIC Vice President and Florida Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier has been appointed as Vice Chair of the Executive Committee (ExCo) of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS). Altmaier began his public service at the Office of Insurance Regulation in 2008, serving in a number of roles including Chief Analyst of the Property and Casualty Financial Oversight unit and Deputy Commissioner of Property and Casualty Insurance.
In addition to Altmaier, the U.S. state insurance system is represented on ExCo by NAIC President-Elect and South Carolina Insurance Director Raymond G. Farmer, Massachusetts Insurance Commissioner Gary Anderson and NAIC CEO Mike Consedine. Altmaier fills the Vice Chair position left open with the departure of Julie Mix McPeak, NAIC Most Recent Past President and former Tennessee Insurance Commissioner.
As a founding member, the NAIC has a long history of leadership and engagement within the IAIS. State insurance regulators and NAIC staff are members of and serve in leadership roles on the various IAIS committees and subcommittees.
