NAIC NAMES 2008 CONSUMER LIAISON REPRESENTATIVES

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Feb. 27, 2008) - The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) recently named its funded and unfunded consumer liaison representatives for 2008. Ten of the funded consumer representatives participated in the program in 2007, while seven are new to the NAIC program.

"Consumer protection is one of the most important goals of the NAIC," said Wisconsin Insurance Commissioner Sean Dilweg, who is chair of the NAIC's Consumer Board of Trustees. "The consumer liaison representatives play an important role in helping improve the insurance regulatory system by providing consumer views."

Established in 1992, the program promotes consumer interaction with the NAIC's Members, the insurance industry and interested parties through the individuals' dedication and commitment to serving the public interest.

The following are the 2008 NAIC funded consumer liaison representatives:

Betty Ahrens*: Executive Director, Iowa Citizen Action Network

Amy Bach*: Executive Director, United Policyholders

Birny Birnbaum: Executive Director, Center for Economic Justice

Brendan Bridgeland: Director, Center for Insurance Research

Constance Chamberlin: President/CEO, Housing Opportunities Made Equal, Inc.

Brenda Cude: Professor and Department Head, University of Georgia

Bob Cohen*: Policy Director, Citizen Action of New York

Evelyn Gay: Project Director, Georgia Legal Services Elder Rights Project

Bonita Kallestad*: Attorney, Mid-Minnesota Legal Assistance, Western Minnesota Legal Services

Karrol Kitt: Associate Professor, University of Texas at Austin

Kevin P. Lembo: Healthcare Advocate, State of Connecticut, Office of the Healthcare Advocate

Kevin Lucia*: Assistant Research Professor, Georgetown University

Sally McCarty: Insurance and Advocacy Specialist, Hemophilia of Indiana

Don Morrison: Executive Director, North Dakota Center for the Public Good

Bill Newton: Executive Director, Florida Consumer Action Network

Dan Schwarcz*: Associate Professor of Law, University of Minnesota Law School

Gregory Squires*: Professor, George Washington University
