NAIC Promotes National Retirement Planning Week

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 4, 2017) —The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) reminds consumers of the importance of financial and insurance planning during National Retirement Planning Week (April 3-7).

"More Americans need to be financially prepared for their retirement years," said Ted Nickel, NAIC President and Wisconsin Insurance Commissioner. "We developed our Retirement Security Initiative to educate consumers as well as support innovations in the market aimed at providing them with more choices for retirement planning."

Retirement security encompasses a broad spectrum of financial tools, including many insurance-related products and services. This includes life insurance and annuities, long-term care insurance and the manner in which insurance products are marketed and sold to consumers. The NAIC is committed to enhancing retirement security through consumer education, consumer protection and innovation. The NAIC's Insure U Retirement microsite details the importance of planning for retirement, including insurance considerations, regardless of age or income.

The association has also partnered with legendary entertainer Rita Moreno to reach consumers regarding the importance of open dialogue about insurance and financial issues, as a complement to the Retirement Security Initiative. Moreno recorded a radio public service announcement, which has aired in 48 states, Washington, D.C. and the Virgin Islands.
