The Health Insurance and Managed Care (B) Committee met Sept. 23, 2009. During this meeting, the Committee:
- Adopted its proposed 2010 charges.
- Heard a presentation from the National Association of State Comprehensive Health Insurance Plans (NASCHIP) concerning its health reform transition proposal. This proposal recommends that there be new annual federal funding to state high-risk pools to provide health insurance coverage to hundreds of thousands of vulnerable Americans during the transition period between the enactment of any federal health care reform legislation and its implementation.
- Heard a legislative update on federal issues, which included a discussion of provisions of interest in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives’ health reform packages.
- Received a briefing from Commissioner Sean Dilweg (WI) concerning his state’s autism law.
- Adopted the report of the Senior Issues Task Force, which included adopting its 2010 proposed charges. The Task Force also adopted the report of its Appendix E Subgroup on revisions to Appendix E of the Long-Term Care Insurance Model Regulation (#641) and approved exposing the draft for comment. The Task Force anticipates having the Committee hold a conference call to adopt the revisions prior to the Winter National Meeting. The Task Force appointed a subgroup to review and provide suggested revisions to the 2010 Choosing a Medigap Policy Guide published jointly by the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the NAIC.
- Adopted the report of the Accident and Health Working Group, which included adopting its 2010 proposed charges.
