Fall 2009 Meeting Summaries Index

The Casualty Actuarial and Statistical (C) Task Force met Sept. 22, 2009. During this meeting, the Task Force:

  • Adopted 2010 charges. NAIC staff will find sponsors.
  • Discussed a potential blanks proposal to modify Note 29 about premium deficiency reserves. Due to suggested changes to the wording, the Task Force will consult with the accident and health actuaries to determine what wording should be used. Future adoption of this blanks proposal doesn’t preclude continued discussion of expansion of the scope of the Statement of Actuarial Opinion to require a premium deficiency reserves opinion; currently, it is optional to comment on the reasonableness of these reserves.
  • Discussed a potential request to the parent committee about whether to pursue development of a u niform system for medical professional liability closed claim reporting. The issue will be discussed more so that a more detailed proposal to the parent committee can be made.
  • Discussed other NAIC work, American Academy of Actuaries’ projects, and potential changes to the Actuarial Standard s Board’s Standards of Actuarial Practice.
Adopted interim conference call minutes from the Aug. 11 call, the Profitability Working Group summary document, and reports from the Catastrophe Modeling Subgroup, Line of Business Subgroup, Statistical Subgroup, and Workers’ Compensation Large Deductible Subgroup.

Minutes are available approximately two weeks after the meeting concludes.
