Fall 2009 Meeting Summaries Index

The International Insurance Relations (G) Committee met Sept. 23, 2009. During this meeting, the Committee:

• Received an update on the International Strategy and Action Plans.
• Discussed revisions to the NAIC International Insurance Relations Guiding Principles. The Committee received suggestions from Committee members and interested parties. A motion was made to adopt guiding principles subject to suggested changes.
• Adopted the NAFTA Working Group report. Heard an update from Director Christina Urias (AZ) about the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)-U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) Notice of Proposed Rulemaking. She notified the Committee that the NAFTA Working Group sent a letter of response to the DOT, and that the NAFTA Trilateral Working Group would be meeting tomorrow.
• Received a report from Yoshi Kawai, International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) on IAIS initiatives.
• Discussed 2010 Committee charges. NAIC staff will make proposed changes and send them to the Committee for further discussion and adoption at a subsequent conference call.
• Received a report from the Solvency Modernization Initiative (EX) Task Force.
• Received a report on the Joint Forum.
• Received a report on a proposed Memorandum of Understanding with Brazilian health insurance regulators from ANS.
